This is the most common type of towbar where the towball bolts directly onto the faceplate. It is the most versatile type of system as it can be used with a wide range of towball accessories.
The swan neck towbar can be a little more pleasing on the eye as it is not as wide and bulky. It uses a more narrow neck coming from the main fixing point of the towbar. Due to the narrow neck you are less likely to experience problems with rear parking sensors.
The electrics are also mounted lower down beside the neck. This can be a big advantage if you have rear parking sensors fitted, as there is less of an obstruction at the face of the bumper.
The detachable Swan Neck is ideal for that discreet and almost invisible look. The main neck is simply removed from the towbar frame leaving little or in some cases nothing at all in sight. The towing sockets can also be mounted on a special pivoting bracket where it is rotated up inside the bumper. Overall this gives the impression that a towbar isn’t even fitted.
Like the fixed flange towbar, the Detachable Flangeball system is the most versatile towbar design. With the ability to completely remove the neck, this type of towbar gives the user maximum flexibility for adding the majority of towing accessories, like bumper guards and cycle carriers whilst keeping the appearance of the vehicle neat and tidy.
There are mainly four different designs to consider when choosing your towbar. Each design will vary in terms of appearance, cost and flexibility.
Carma Automotive offer three different types of sockets for the electrics on your towbar. Choosing what socket you require all depends on what you are towing. 7 Pin, otherwise known as 12N, is the most common and is standard for most UK trailers and caravans.
Choosing how the towbar electrics are connected to your vehicle is essential for trouble free towing. With car/van wiring becoming more complex, certain vehicles will require additional parts for correct operation off the trailer lights. There are various ways in which this can be achieved.
Keeping you towing safely and providing additional socket upgrades giving you extra convenience when towing are just a few of the towing services we can offer.
In order for all the features of a dedicated kit to be fully functional, some vehicles will require the towing module to be coded or programmed into the vehicle’s onboard computer.
We strongly believe that communication, honesty, good planning and quality workmanship are key to a first class service.
